Lauren Taylor White

Lauren Taylor White, the Ecotarian Culinarian, is passionate about the raw / vegan / vegetarian movement being the way we can each do our part in making our personal practices more sustainable.
She first knew there was something special about the effects of the raw diet when she and her husband first started feeding their chocolate lab raw food extras. Sierra Nevada Leone would run up and down the stairs about 20 times in a row.

Lauren’s background is in architecture. She got her undergrad degree from UC Berkeley, then got her Masters of Architecture from the University of London. She has worked as a specialist for some of the largest and most prestigious architecture firms including Foster and Partners in London, Gehry Partners in Los Angeles, and Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) in San Francisco. She recently had the opportunity to tour the AGO Art Gallery of Ontario that she worked on for many months at Gehry. Other soon to be completed projects she has worked on include the Beijing Aiport, West Kowloon Cultural Center, Wembley Stadium and others. Her current focus in architecture and passion is with LEED and green building. She dreams of one day living on a humble ranch with a dwelling unit from a barn kit. The place will be entirely sustainable with solar panels, gray water, etc. oh yeah, and don’t forget about the horse!

Taylor White Foundation

Carol and Kevin White have established the Taylor White Foundation for Advancing our Community, Inc. in memory of their son. Taylor was killed in an automobile accident while out with his friends. In a desire for Taylor's death to be a force for good, a foundation has been created that works toward building a community environment that better supports Juneau teens in healthy choices around high risk behaviors (including drugs and alcohol).

The foundation envisions focusing in 3 areas:

1. explore proactive measures that support current efforts to limit access to alcohol and drugs;
2. use current research on teen brains to support and create evidence-based education and awareness efforts that are relevant and meaningful to teens;
3. develop activities and outlets for teenagers that are engaging, exciting, and challenging with acceptable risk.

Taylor White

Taylor White Male:

Taylor White was a typical Juneau teenager when he died June 5 as a passenger in a drunk-driving accident only days after graduating from Juneau-Douglas High School, his mother said.

Taylor White was an outgoing teenager who cared deeply about his friends, his mother said. He liked to ski, fish, play video games and tinker around on cars.

"He was a pretty well-rounded kid but probably his most defining characteristic is he was extremely social," Carol White said. "His friends were really important to him. He was really good at being a friend." The loss has been difficult for some people to accept because Taylor was so charismatic and moved so gracefully through life, she said. "He listened. People felt heard, they felt cared about and loved when he was around," Carol White said. "He was also pretty stubborn and hard headed. He lived his life by his own terms and they were not necessarily the terms that we wanted him to."

Carol and Kevin White have established the Taylor White Foundation for Advancing our Community, Inc. in memory of their son.

Taylor White Process

At a time when engineering analysis was an imperfect science, Taylor performed exhaustive tests on engine lathes and diligently recorded data on stresses and other capacities. In 1900, Taylor and an associate, Maunsel White, discovered the relationship between heat treatment of lathes and the increased cutting ability of the tool. Word of the technical breakthrough spread quickly, and the Taylor-White process was adopted worldwide.

In 1899 and 1900, Frederick Winslow Taylor and Maunsel White, working with a team of assistants at the Bethlehem Steel Company at Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA, performed a series of experiments with the heat treating of existing high-quality tool steels, such as Mushet steel, heating them to much higher temperatures than were typically considered desirable in the industry.[3] Their experiments were characterized by a scientific empiricism in that many different combinations were made and tested, with no regard for conventional wisdom or alchemic recipes, and with detailed records kept of each batch. The end result was a heat treatment process that transformed existing alloys into a new kind of steel that could retain its hardness at higher temperatures, allowing much higher speeds, feeds, and depths of cut when machining.

The Taylor-White process was patented and created a revolution in the machining industries, in fact necessitating whole new, heavier machine tool designs so the new steel could be used to its full advantage. The patent was hotly contested and eventually nullified, but the vigor of the litigation seems to have been propelled less by the merits of the case and more by the fact that many firms faced commercial extinction if they could not find a way to circumvent the patent.

White Frosting

This simple white frosting recipe is rich and creamy and perfect for topping cakes or cupcakes.

Prep: 10 min.

This recipe goes with Chocolate-Chocolate Cupcakes With White Frosting

Yield: Makes about 2 1/2 cups
Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 to 3 Tbsp. milk
Preparation
1. Beat butter with an electric mixer at medium-high speed until creamy. Gradually beat in sugar until smooth. Beat in vanilla and 2 Tbsp. milk, adding additional milk, if necessary, for desired consistency.

How To Apply White Frosting On Cake:
How to Frost a 1 Layer Cake

Just spread frosting over it. Use swirling motions with the back of a spoon to create peaks and troughs, for a dramatic look.

How to Frost a 2 Layer Cake

There are two common ways to put the layers when assembling a layer cake. (Tilt your head to the left to see the illustrations.)

  • The bases can both go down, like so: (|(| This is a slightly unstable configuration, and I tend not to use it.
  • The layers can be placed base to base: (||)

Whichever way you decide to place it, choose the less shapely piece for the bottom layer. Place it on the serving platter. Using a knife, spread a generous coating of frosting on the upper surface. Ignore the sides for now; you'll get to them later.

Place the second layer on top of the frosted surface. If the layers are slightly asymmetrical, make sure the larger sides are opposite one another, so the top is roughly level. Otherwise the whole thing may just slide apart.

Cover the top of the cake with frosting. Don't worry about effect yet; just make sure the surface is covered.

Using a knife, start to frost the sides. You're trying to create a solid cliff face of frosting, with no visible crack where the layers join. This can be the most trying part, particularly if the frosting is a bit sticky. If the cake is sticking to the frosting rather than the other way around, add just a tiny bit more milk.

Finish the top off with a bit more frosting, if you have it to spare. Use the back of a spoon in swirling patterns to make peaks and troughs in the frosting.

How to Frost Cupcakes

The easiest way is to hold the cupcakes by the paper wrapping and dip them in the frosting, then pull them out with a twist of the wrist. This is the best and fastest way, if you are confident that your frosting is thin enough. If it takes the top off your cupcake, add more milk and try again.

Decorations, candles, and fancy writing are left as an exercise for the student.

White House: History

The White House, one of the most recognizable buildings in Washington, DC, was designed by James Hoban, an Irish-born and-trained architect who won a competition organized by President George Washington and Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson in 1792. The competitions were held to determine who would design the nation's two most important buildings, the President's House and the Capitol. It is believed that Jefferson, competing under a pseudonym, submitted designs and lost both competitions. Hoban's inspiration for the house was drawn from an Anglo-Irish villa called the Leinster House in Dublin. Although President Washington oversaw construction, he never lived in the house. President John Adams, elected in 1796 as the second President, was the first resident of the White House. Abigail Adams, President Adams' wife, was known to have complained about the largely unfinished new residence. President Thomas Jefferson, upon moving to the house in 1801, was also not impressed, and dismissed the house as being too big. Jefferson made several structural changes under architect Benjamin Henry Latrobe such as the addition of terrace-pavilions on either side of the main building and single-story wings for storage. In addition to replacing the slate roof with one of sheet iron, Jefferson further improved the grounds by landscaping them in a picturesque manner. While James Madison was President from 1809 to 1817, the White House was torched by the British in the War of 1812. Although the fire was put out by a summer thunderstorm, all that remained were the outside, charred walls and the interior brick walls. Madison brought Hoban back to restore the mansion, which took three years. It was during this construction that the house was painted white. Hoban later added the South and North Porticos, using a slightly altered design by Latrobe.

Expansion and further alterations were made when President Theodore Roosevelt declared the house unsafe to inhabit. He had the original building remodeled. By making the third-story attic into habitable rooms and adding the Executive Office wing and the East Gallery, Roosevelt separated his work space from his family life. In 1909, architect Nathan C. Wyeth extended the office wing adding the well-known oval office. Although used informally for some time, it was President Theodore Roosevelt who gave the White House its official name. Finally, the last major renovation took place when President Harry Truman decided that again the building was unsafe and had to be gutted. Steel replaced the original frame and paneling, and a balcony was added to the South Portico. The White House, an architectural symbol of the American presidency and the nation's power, remains a stylistically simple residence and an example of the stolid republican ideals of the Founding Fathers.

An arrangement of white roses is not only beautiful; it can carry a complexity that belies its simpler appearance. Whatever the reason white roses are given, it can be assured that they will be deeply appreciated by their recipient.

Moisture transfer drying method is used on the white rose. This technique involves the use of an absorbent which desiccates the rose by transferring the moisture from the petals to another medium. The most common medium for this method is silica aerogel, "silica" in the crafts stores.

White Dove

White Doves have long been recognized universally as a symbol of peace and goodwill. Forever moving forward, the dove is a true hope for the future - a future of peace. The Dove is a bird of prophecy and can help you see what you can create in your life." Doves not only symbolize peace and purity.White Dove Release has performed for a wide variety of occasions. An old world custom in Europe and in the South Seas for many years was to release doves at weddings to symbolize blessings, peace, love and prosperity for a married couple. White doves play a key role in life's celebrations because of the beauty and symbolism associated with them.Well as far as I know the dove first gained significance from the bible, when Noah sent the dove out to see if there was land after the flood destroyed the evil in the world.. I guess people then decided it means peace.
Doves and pigeons belong to the same group of birds, and homing pigeons are known for their ability to fly many miles to return to their home. Some of the companies who advertise doves for release at wedding say that their birds are trained to return home, but this would only be possible if homing pigeons are used instead of doves. Doves do not have a homing instinct.

Most of the doves will be killed by a hawk, hit by a car or will starve. Because the doves are completely domesticated, they have lost all ability to feed in the wild and will not instinctively keep close to cover when hawks are present.

Instead of having these beautiful birds released at your wedding you could still see a dove by having dove decorations. It doesn't seem right to send them to death just because releasing them at a wedding will look good in the pictures. The Dove is a picture of the Holy Spirit and the color white represents purity. The symbol of a Dove representing peace with God comes from the Genesis account where Noah sent out a Dove to see if the waters had gone down and it came back with an olive leaf.

Matthew 3:16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

Genesis 8:11 And the dove came back to him in the evening, and behold, in her mouth was a freshly plucked olive leaf. So Noah knew that the waters had subsided from the earth. The use of snow white doves at weddings can be traced back to ancient Greek and Roman times when the doves were gifts from the Bride to the Groom. Even in biblical passages, the appearance of the snow white dove came to symbolize holiness, innocence and fidelity. Building their nest together, the white dove falls in love and mates for life; therefore, they are instinctively drawn home where the safety of their nest and a loving mate awaits them. Like many couples today, they take turns caring for their youngsters. They both sit and turn the eggs until their hatched. Then share the responsibilities of feeding the babies and keeping them warm until they have feathers of their own. These traits have endeared them to us with an established place in romantic literature and art.
There are many types of doves. However, the species that we commonly recognize to symbolize our love for one another is the snow white Ring Neck dove used by magicians and also found in pet stores. These birds should NEVER be released. They have poor flying ability, absolutely no homing instinct and if released into the wild will quickly starve or fall prey to predators.
The white birds that we use for releases are actually white Rock Doves. They are not what most would refer to as "doves", but pigeons. The term "pigeon" actually is from the French language meaning "dove". It’s important to realize that while doves and pigeons are part of the same family, unlike domestic doves, homing pigeons (Rock Doves) possess a natural "homing" instinct. These awesome athletes were developed over the last few hundred years using very selective breeding to augment their keen instinct of "home". This instinct is sharpened by intense training on a daily basis by a knowledgeable handler, which allows them to return safely to their loft following a release.
Our team of pure white "Rock Doves" receive the finest care to insure their health, safety and to insure their love of "home". Our family of birds has been developed using the finest stock of white racing pigeons from lofts across the country. We have the philosophy of breeding and training as a race loft to keep the quality of our birds at its highest. Our birds are loft flown every day, weather permitting, and then the young birds are taken on their training tosses. These tosses start at 5 miles and gradually advance to 50 miles in all four directions of our home and loft.
These magnificent birds cannot be released indoors nor can they be released in inclement weather conditions. They must also be released within enough time before sunset depending upon the location of the ceremony and the current season of the year to ensure their safe return home before dark.

White Zone Game

If you are looking for an unusual Room Escape game, then White Zone is for you. White Zone is an intriguingly different sort of room escape game; as you might have gathered, it does not take place in any sort of concrete space. There are no walls, no ceiling, no door; instead, the player is faced with a few pieces of furniture—two chairs, a television, and a dresser, to be exact—arranged in a circle, seemingly suspended within a white void. Some forgotten corner of the Matrix? Perhaps. The setting is ethereal, spare, almost dreamlike—do not, however, mistake its seeming simplicity for a lack of substance.

Indeed, it's amazing how much puzzle-y goodness is fit into such a sparsely-furnished environment. You can examine each piece of furniture from all sides, and you'll need to do so; as the game progresses you'll find yourself flitting back and forth between chair and dresser and television, each time uncovering a different clue or necessary item. Happily, the puzzles (with one very significant exception) are largely logical, dependent mainly upon observation of patterns and keen attention to detail, and should pose a healthy but not excessive challenge to most escapers. That's what happens in White Zone, where you're magically transported to a room with just four pieces of furniture.

White Day Game

WhiteDay game description
WhiteDay is a fear inducing horror survival game viewed, for the first time ever in this genre, completely from a first person perspective. The White Day is another Japanese point and click escape the room game from Gotmail. Like the other Gotmail games this game has really good graphics and sounds. Objective of this game is escape from the room by finding and using items and clues.

Unfolding like a movie, the player takes control of a love-sick teenager entering into the local school late at night to return your dream girl's diary, which she lost earlier in the day and to drop off a token of your affection WhiteDay chocolates.

Very shortly players are introduced to two of the central characters, talking about ghost stories, in one of the school's many haunted corridors. It isn't long before the first problem of disabling the school alarm system becomes a priority.

During this challenge the game takes a very dark turn, as you witness the janitor club a man to death with a baseball bat, whilst the sounds of young and decidedly spooky children laugh on.

The most keen survival horror games player will find some pleasant surprises within WhiteDay with some real shock scenes that will have normally calm players literally squealing in their seats and shaking like a cowardly wuss!

The action is interspersed with graphically excellent cut scenes that allow the player to make decisions on the direction of the storyline, allowing the game to take one of two different directions.

There are no weapons in WhiteDay, but many ingenious puzzles litter your way throughout the game, seeing the player disable alarm systems, open combination safes and rescuing trapped school kids from weird apparitions. The difficulty setting helps the player to get into the story whilst carefully providing a harder challenge at every turn.

Taking the genre one step further, Sonnori have included a multiplayer feature giving a real time scare factor to the game as online players can pick to play from a host of horrors such as a ghost, devil, or janitor or - as per the single player mode - a hapless and unarmed school kid, to name a few.

White Day

White Day, March 14, as opposed to Valentine's Day, is a completely Japanese event. While women give gifts to men on Valentine's Day in Japan, on White Day, men should return the favor and give gifts to women from whom they received gifts or chocolate, or to women in whom they are romantically interested.Although White Day is not as big as St. Valentine's Day, many people still send various gifts. For White Day, cookies, candies or white chocolates are common instead of regular chocolates. There is a superstition amoung some young people that if someone gives you cookies, that means "I love you;" candies mean "I like you," and white chocolate means "Let's be friends." Other gifts usally given along with food are jewelry, handbags, shoes, wallets, scarves, handkerchieves, and stuffed animals. Some men, just as in America, give lingerie to their girlfriends. As on St. Valentine's Day, on the day of or before White Day, we can see many couples enjoying going out together around town. They often go shopping, see movies, or dine at fancy restaurants.

In spite of the popularity of St. Valentine's Day among children, boys rarely return gifts to girls on White Day. Therefore, mothers whose boys are in elementary schools or kindergartens buy cookies or candies, and give them to the girls who gave chocolates to their boys.

In Japan, Valentine's Day is observed by females who present chocolate gifts (either store-bought or handmade), usually to a male, as an expression of love. The handmade chocolate is usually preferred by the receiver, because it is a sign that the receiving male is the girl's "only one". On White Day, the converse happens: males who received a honmei-choco or giri-choco on Valentine's Day are expected to return the favor by giving gifts, usually more expensive. Traditionally, popular White Day gifts are cookies, jewellery, white chocolate, white lingerie and marshmallows. When Japanese unique Valentine's Day of females giving chocolates to males to express affinity and love has taken root in 1980, another manners and customers unique to Japan formed, which is White Day, celebrated on March 14. The custom of White Day is quite unique to Japan. On this day, men have the opportunity to give gifts to women in return for the chocolate they received on Valentine's Day.

The custom of White Day started in 1978 in Fukuoka City when a sweet maker came up with the idea as a way to promote sales,. Then White Day campaign was planned and approved by nationwide association of candy industry and the first campaign was held in 1980. The fifth campaign in 1984 has become such a huge success that they were short of products, and 1984 was named as the year that in which White Day has taken root.

White Day has slowly become an annual custom among many men, although Japanese men were not accustomed to giving gifts like this to women, and then the custom eventually spread throughout the country. At first, the gifts given to women were often something white, like marshmallows or white chocolate, hence the name White Day. Recently however, various gifts are given, regardless of the color, and currently, companies from many different fields are developing products for the day.

White Blood Cell

White blood cells are also called leukocytes. White blood cells are the cells that engulf and digest bacteria and fungi; and are important part of the body's defense system. White blood cells help to fight against the infection. White blood ccell are the key part of the body immune system.

There are Five types of the White Blood Cell:

  1. Neutrophils
  2. Eosinophils
  3. Basophils
  4. Monocytes
  5. Lymphoctes
In a normal adult body there are 4,000 to 10,000 (average 7,000) WBCs per microliter of blood. When a germ does appear, the white blood cells have a variety of ways by which they can attack. Some will produce protective antibodies that will overpower the germ. Others will surround and devour the bacteria.A consistently high number of white blood cells is a symptom of Leukemia, a cancer of the blood. A Leukemia patient may have as many as 50,000 white blood cells in a single drop of blood. Disoders due to white blood cell count include infectious and inflammatory diseases; leukemia and lymphoma; and bone marrow disorders.
